Critical Incident Stress
Debriefing is a structured technique used with people who have undergone
trauma e.g.
-
A car crash,
-
Witnessing something deeply
upsetting,
-
Being robbed,
-
Attacked, or badly frightened,
-
Suicide bereaved, etc.
Joe Heffernan has worked, for
example, with bank staff following the bank being robbed at gunpoint, in one
instance, and at knife-point in another instance. He has been trained in
"Psychological Trauma Management and Critical Incident Stress
Debriefing". This is a most useful service and can prevent the onset of
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in people affected by trauma. It is used with
groups and individuals. For example pupils in a school situation where
tradegy has struck benefit greatly from this technique. The debriefing takes
about two hours generally and is best employed within 72 hours of the
incident, but it can be employed after a longer period - the sooner the
better.

Professional screening for ADHD
(Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and Dyslexia are available and
professional one-to-one tuition is available also where a Reading
Difficulty is found to be present. Advanced modern computer aids are used
in this area.
Intensive help is given to those
who are encountering problems with reading for the Junior Certificate.
